It's that time of the year again, Great Amazing Race Pursuit (or whatever they're calling it this year, I forget.). [livejournal.com profile] kirstenfleur was unfortunately (for me, not for her) overseas at a wedding, so I teamed up with [livejournal.com profile] astrocave to form "Hadron's Weasels". The team name came from this incident of course where weasels managed to short circuit the LHC by chewing wires. I thought this was hilarious. Still do.

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] kirstenfleur and I competed in another mini-Amazing Race Pursuit. There was a bit of a kerfuffle starting the day before when we belated realised that the plans we had made were not in fact going to work - doing these races has become increasingly complicated as our children start participating in Saturday activities!! Fortunately Dean and [livejournal.com profile] kirstenfleur's sister-in-law were able to help out and so we headed off, leaving two children with Dean at home and one child with the sister-in-law at jazz ballet. We made good time into the city, especially considering there was football on, and arrived at our start/finish point at Federation Square roughly half an hour early.

After our very sucessful mini-race I somewhat ambitiously entered [livejournal.com profile] kirstenfleur and myself into the competitive category of this year's Great Amazing Race. The idea was that we had months to train. Naturally we didn't. This was due to a number of things, including both of us managing to injure our knees at different times, children, life and general disorganisedness. I did think about changing our category after my knee injury, but decided, what the heck, let's just go for it. So we did.

Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Amanda, the personal trainer, asking me if I'd seen the Scoupon Amazing Race offer. No, I hadn't, yes, I was interested. It was a promotion for a mini-Amazing Race event being run by the same company but sold entirely through Scoupon and another similar company. Instead of 6 hours it would be 4 and they were running 6 of them on different dates. I promptly bought tickets and e-mailed [livejournal.com profile] kirstenfleur to ask if she wanted to come and partner me and ask which dates suited her. She did, and we settled on the 17th May as being free for both of us.

At this point I think I'm better off doing a general overview of thoughts rather than a post per episode! Which is why I'm still doing one episode at a time, because I've just discovered I'm incapable. Hopefully I'll catch up to the current episode... by the end of next week, heh.
Cut to avoid boring people who aren't watching this.. )

OK, more race current standings. I do intend to actually post impressions the last couple of legs, I just haven't had time to do it. Unlike this, which is a five minute procrastination job.

A quick moment of procrastination.

Yes, I am procrastinating from this essay. On the other hand it's 10% done... so kind of nearly thereish. Sort of. Unless I decide to start rewriting from scratch, which is not impossible. *sigh*

Anyway. Episode 3.This turned into a recap )

More Amazing Race Australia. First off I'd just like to thank Channel 7 for including so many ads that I had time to go to the bedroom and get changed into my PJs, brush my teeth, go to the study, shut down the computer, and still manage to watch the last three commercials. Also - thanks heaps for over-running again by more than our HD recorder's 7 minute overlap, I really enjoy missing the last 8 minutes and having to chase it down. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if it'd be easier to download. Now I really want a TiVo that automatically deletes the commercials. At least then I know the program would actually be on there.

Anyway.
