Heh. My first score was:

You scored as Middle Class. You're content in your position and would prefer a house or a family than a seven figure pay cheque. But you have your moments of weakness when you buy a lottery ticket in the hope of knowing how the rich and famous live.

Then I changed the answer to one question and got:

You scored as Upper middle Class. Your determination have soared you this high, yet not high enough to enjoy the luxuries of the upper class. Your most valued posession is your country club membership which is kept framed in the office.

So basically I'm in the middle of the road only with "alternative" tendencies. Oh whatever, I'm gen X, obviously I'm going to have alternative tendencies!

I also found some questions quite interesting, particularly:

Are you a miminalist but not by choice?

Well no, but is this a nice way of asking if you don't have much stuff because you can't afford it? Or you don't have much space? Or you travel too much to be able to accumulate stuff? It's all about the stuff, really, isn't it.

Although I suppose you could answer yes on the grounds that obsessive-compulsive disorder or having a minimalist aesthetic isn't really a choice per se.

Were you born into wealth?

In what sense? Compared to a large percentage of the planet's inhabitants I was born into almost unimaginable wealth. Compared to some members of my community I was born into quite normal wealth. Compared to other members I was born quite poor.

Do you have extreme political views?

Does anyone ever answer yes here? I mean pretty much everyone I know considers their views completely normal - extreme is usually what's opposing them. Family First consider their views normal, as do members of One Nation and members of the Greens. I find all parties to have people holding quite extreme views - as they probably do me. The legalisation of gay marriage, for example, is seen as being both normal by one segment of the community and dangerously extreme by another. Ditto back burning. Ditto logging. And anything with the word "feral" in it is on dodgy ground already.

Do you have business or personal ties with the upper class?

Um, I work for people who undoubtedly would score "upper class" on this test were it based at least partially on income. How does one live in a community without having business or personal ties with people from different social strata? I buy from small business owners, I play sport with people from a range of SES levels... I think I'm from too small a town.

Are social connections of the utmost importance?

Yeah, I like to party as much as the next person. Or was that meant in a different way? I don't know Lillian Frank, if that's what you meant. I probably can't run a charity function which will pay some celeb to come along and care. I certainly can't think of anyone offhand to ring up and get people to pay money and see. (On the other hand I know who to ring to get to those people so...)

Do you constantly judge people on the basis of class and wealth?

Don't we all? I mean I know I make snap judgments walking into a room - who looks like they're going to be more interesting to talk to, who looks like they just got up... I think it's normal human behaviour. (see above for "normal"). 'Do you permanently pigeonhole people on the basis of class and wealth without making the effort to know them' is a bit of a different question. Or 'do you brownnose the people you think are above you'.

I really must look up where the person who wrote this quiz is from. I'm guessing the UK but I could be wrong on that.

I went back and changed two answers and got 75% middle class, 54% alternative. Weird.

Given that whoever devised the questions knew we would have to tick according to agree/disagree you'd think the cretin might have posed questions to which agree/disagree would be logical answers. Bah, some people are so organic junkmail!
