I'ts been stormy all week, starting on Monday after we'd finished playing netball (thank you weather!)

I was driving in front of Trish, showing her how to get to Melbourne Airport from Prahran[1], so we were both heading right into the storm as it broke.

And it was impressive. Lightning right across the sky, floods (in some places literally, although thankfully not on the Tulla freeway[2]) of rain, a black line of cloud edging its way across the sky.

And some of the lightning was green! It was like watching the aurora borealis, only very briefly and interspersed with flashes of bright white light and loud noises[3].

It also made seeing the lines on the road very difficult[4]. Fortunately we both made it out to Tulla OK, and then I gave her a lift back into the city - which meant that we were driving back into the storm which had passed over us while at the airport.

More green lightning! I still have no idea what it was, I've seriously never seen it before. At one point we were joking that it was probably an alien invasion.

I dropped Trish off at Flinders St. Unfortunately all the trains to where she lives were delayed/cancelled due to a lightning strike on a signal box[5], which I didn't know otherwise I'd have driven her home. It took about 2 hours for her to get home again...

A second wave of today's storm has just come over as I'm writing... the first wave hit our building and we briefly lost power[6]. Hopefully that won't happen again, not least because I'm running a western. From the looks of the clouds towards the bay it's not the last wave that'll come over tonight, either.

Thunderbolts and lightning... and I'm going to have to dash over to move my car closer to the building the minute the rain dies down a bit I think...

[1] She was returning a rental car. Long story.

[3] As far as I know the aurora doesn't make noises. Hey, maybe it does.
[4] I nearly exited onto the Calder and headed off to Bendigo by mistake because I was following the one line I could consistently see, which was the side line.
[5] Delayed trains until midday the next day incidentally. The number of people whinging in the MX about it was incredible. It's a storm, people. Take it as read God Hates You Because You Live On The Pakenham/Frankston Line, OK?
[6] It took us half an hour to stop the hood from beeping. It doesn't like having power failures.
