Well, I survived the first week. I might even have taken some of the copious amounts of information in (the grant application made sense when I re-read it this afternoon). I basically spent 95% of the week reading, with a quick visit to the plants and animals and some primer ordering. Oh, and some introductions. I remember about 5 names correctly and some of the rest I'm fairly sure of. It's a big group, spread over two floors which means that some people I have literally met once. Oh and out of the three people I report to, two are currently on leave. :-) But they gave me lots and lots of reading. And two entirely new, and completely unrelated to cancer or each other, areas to learn.

The commute has been interesting too. It's taking me about 40min in and 60-70min home, but it's school and uni holidays at the moment so I don't think that'll be representative. I think I will probably end up joining the dark side and getting an e-tag once everyone goes back - but then again, I will have to start at about 7am on Thursdays so maybe I should just rearrange my sleep patterns and try to work from 7am every day. There are a lot of idiots on the road (nothing new I guess) - I got really nervous today when I saw a 4WD being driven by a P-plater as if it were a Monaro.
