Dean's got his chops back. I think this is a good thing (he's much happier when they're there) and after mashing his hand playing soccer last week he was quite mopey. I don't think he'll ever be a Rock God (with the emphasis) but it's getting to the point where he's making noises about playing in bands again. When we met he was playing with a group, which rehearsed for ages and ended up doing just two gigs before the bass player walked. I'm still not entirely sure why the bass player left, other than it seems to be traditional for them to crack it and move on after minor incidents. So I only got to be a groupie for an extremely short time. ;-)

This weekend's been fairly quiet, and very unhealthy nutritionally speaking. We went to one of Dean's workmates 30th birthday last night and I drank alcohol for the first time in ages. Getting up this morning to work was fun - I ended up getting Dean to drive me as I really wasn't sure what my BAC was and I can't afford either fines or no license. Driving home last weekend we went through a booze bus stop and both of us were quite shocked by the numbers of cars that were being booked. Normally (well for both of us at least) going through a booze bus involves pulling over, blowing in the bag, the cop wishing you a good night and then continuing on. That's what happened again this time with us. However the bloke in front of us was asked to step out of the car and accompany one officer to the actual bus while a second officer moved his car onto the verge. There were about 8 cars on the verge, at least 3 people that we could see already in the office waiting to take the second sample and one extremely pissed off looking woman being led across (from the direction she was coming and the way her partner was staggering we guessed that she'd (a) driven because he was wasted and (b) tried to duck up a sidestreet and been caught). And about 10 people sitting around waiting for taxis, watching the side show. Apparently the number of people being done for drink-driving is back on the slow creep upward though - the police did a blitz on four major freeways one Friday night and found themselves somewhat appalled to catch about 60 people where previously they'd only have maybe 20 max. This led to a public appeal and - naturally - the buses being out in force for a couple of weeks.

Actually, thinking about it, that was the first time in about a year that'd I'd been through a booze bus. For some reason I seem to miss them (well, coming home from work at 3am probably helps - although all my workmates who live in the West report them on Friday nights just off the exits from the Westgate). They don't seem to be putting them on the northern routes quite as much. There was one quite bizarre night a couple of years ago though when a friend and I managed to go through 4 different ones in one night. By the last one we were killing ourselves laughing, particuarly when the policewoman held up the bag and asked "do you know what this is?" (Suprisingly neither of us answered using any quotes from Red Dwarf). Things got even more tense when we were both asked to produce licenses and Ness managed to accidentally pull out her shooters license rather than her driver's license (similar colours and very similar photo). In retrospect I think the cop thought we were high - which we were, having just had 3 cappuchinos and a couple of espressos in celebration of winning the netball grand final. Fortunately it's not illegal to drive while caffinated. :-)
