Ok, it's still raining and no one's yet called me to say that netball's cancelled.

Surely we're not playing in the rain again...

RNA (where I used to play) had a policy stating "netball is an all weather sport, like the AFL. Games will only be cancelled due to electrical storms, hail or snow."

In spite of that we had at least 2 games cancelled due to rain that I can remember - for one the rain was so heavy that we couldn't see the other end of the court and the other one the court flash flooded and suddenly we were trying to run in 10cm of water. Oh and another time a tree blew down across the court earlier in the day and they couldn't get it moved in time.

Melbourne netball (which plays at the same venue) generally cancels if the rain is constant, as the courts get really slippery (and who wants to play in the cold and wet?) The rain at the moment is a bit in between - varying between heavy showers and drizzle. If it's still drizzling at 7pm, I guess we'll be playing. Wish I'd brought my blue trackies, they're much warmer than my netball skirt!

There's currently a petition being signed by all the players at both Melb and RNA to get an indoor venue up and running in Richmond. It'll be nice if it happens.

Generally I don't mind playing in the wet - it's playing in 30oC and above that's a bit dodgy. We were fortunate this summer - for some reason we had all the late games, which meant we were only playing in the direct sun two or three times. Much nicer to play after the sun's down and the only heat is being radiated off the court. Now of course we're aiming for all the early games so we can go home and warm up again before going to bed.

Last night we again won the soccer by annihilation. 8-3. Last week we won 9-1, and the week before we drew. I'm thinking this demotion was no bad thing... we might even get promoted again! The best bit is that the Ferret and co are now in a different draw (yay!) so we can hopefully avoid an on-court punch up for a bit longer. I'm also thinking the English invasion - particularly the accredited soccer coach part of it - really has helped! And yes, [livejournal.com profile] epideme, I will play in goal again soon. Honest. :-) My G&T injury has nearly healed again now...
