Taxed

So, despite what I said last year I did, of course, end up putting my tax return in today.

This year was such a nightmare (all these companies demerging! And exposing me to CGT "events"[1]!) that I've made the decision to give the whole bloody lot to an agent next year. Honestly, it was a such a pain in the arse.

And of course giving it to an agent means that I'll actually have to get organised with the certificates and things, which can't be a bad thing.

Despite my will to organise, mostly by buying a filing cabinet (which I know I mentioned earlier, but buggered if I know when), not a lot got done. In fact it took us until Wednesday evening to realise that the hanging folders we'd bought don't actually fit the cabinet. This weekend, I'm organising. Honest.

[1] a "CGT event" is the cute name the tax office is giving Capital Gains Tax this year. Sweet, isn't it? It puts me in mind of a marquee, with champagne and nibblies and black tie. Rather than the nightmare of trying to work out what percentage of each company in the demerge did what and whether you made a profit without knowing about it. *sigh*
