Sep. 17th, 2005 01:39 pmThe murder of a real estate agent yesterday both shocked and didn't surprise me.
It didn't surprise me for two reasons - I'd read somewhere a couple of years ago that exactly that kind of murder - female estate agent booked to see property (usually isolated in the US cases) by male giving fictious name, often at post-work hour: agent later found murdered in the property - was on the increase in the US and so it was likely that someone would come up with the idea here. Sad, but true.
The other reason came from we were going past the local real estate agent's office last weekend. I glanced at the photos and noticed that while all the male real estate agents had a smiling face shot photo, the female agent had a full body shot. And for some people, yes, that screams "available". Because really what else is it actually saying?
*sigh* The poor woman. Her poor family.
