For the first time in about three years I've made it to a show at the Comedy Festival. Usually the festival sneaks up on me, and I realise that it was on about two days before it finishes. This time it's coincided more nicely than usual with Easter and between that and having two expats who were trying to see as many shows as possible before heading back to their respective non-English speaking countries, I managed to get to a show.

The show was actually being done by my friend J's neighbour from Edinburgh. Small world, and the expat world is smaller still. It also turned out to be the show with the second best title in the guide (the best is still "The Lion, The Bitch and the Closet") and the one my brother saw and immediately wanted to see.

So we went to see Kieran Butler Claims Collingwood Ruined My Life.

At the Carringbush Hotel. In the Bobby Rose room of the Carringbush Hotel. For that alone, we probably would have gone anyway. Heh.

It was a good watch, some bits were hilarious, but he couldn't quite keep it going the whole way through. The drink driving story was funny, although I think pretty much the entire audience was thinking the obvious: Bloody Idiot. And the attempts to bring up his daughter in the Collingwood faith... heh.

And as for the filk on 'Torn'... *giggle*

Surprisingly there was only one Eddie joke although, as Dean pointed out, for the Collingwood faithful that'd be akin to a priest making jokes about the Pope. We were also expecting a few more references to the Anzac Day match next week, but no. The 1990 Grand Final though got a complete workout, probably because it's the only final they've won in... well since I've been alive.

And he's probably right, Collingwood did ruin his life. Still he packed in the faithful and a few of the agnostics or heretics - like us, who went to laugh at his pain. We admit it. Barrack for Collingwood... you probably deserve it. ;-)

(And I'm getting my brother-in-law to go next week. Because he bleeds black and white...)

Eddie? Oh yeah, that's right, that utterly useless English sportsman Eddie the Magpie? Eagle? or something. . .

Okay, but you did realise I was taking the piss out of your third Eddy didn't you? (We never saw him half as much as you lot did but we're still tired of him.)

Actually my favourite is Eddy Hitler from Bottom. Don't know if he counts though being a fictional character and all.
