A couple of links grabbed from all over the place.

From lab_gripes: This woman is a 3rd year med student. Personally, I'm worried. But hey, why would you need to understand basic science as a doctor? After all, the uni where I was working doesn't teach microbiology[1] to med students any more. They do teach communication skills though, so that's OK.

From The Annals of Improbable Research comes Father-Daughter Purity Balls! Can I just say... eeeuuuwww. And more eeeuuuwww. And again, eeuuww. Sorry, just not getting the joy here. I'm all for good father-daughter relationships but signing a pledge to protect your daughter's honour?!? When your daughter is four?!?! Eeeuuww.

(And where are the Father-Son Purity Balls? Hopefully I just haven't found a link for them yet... And I swear I read somewhere that the best predictor of whether a teenager will have underage sex is their relationship with their mother (for girls) and their relationship with their peers (for boys). Sorry dads.)


[1] 5 lectures in a 5 year degree is not "teaching microbiology". But hey, it's not like microorganisms cause disease or anything, is it. *sigh*

She's a "homeschooled" med student. That says it all. Should look great on her resume. Ahem.

And doctors definitely need communication skills, they're shit at it. But I agree that microbiology and such is ... well, more important :)
