Fashion, or Back to the Future.
Oct. 8th, 2006 07:48 amApparently this year is the driest since 1982. As a result, the CFA are expecting a bumper fire season, something which was brought home by the first total fire ban day on Tuesday. What is the weather doing? It's not supposed to be 30oC yet. I'm going to have to go and buy work summer gear if the temperatures are suddenly going to shoot up on me.
I actually went and had a bit of a look around today, just to see what's out there. The short answer - um, not a huge amount that I actually like. Certainly not a lot that I'd be happy to wear to work. I'm trying to pretend that I'm a professional here, dammit, not some lost 80s clone. If I wanted to wear bubble skirts, I'd have kept the one I had. *sigh*
And who, for the love of God, decided to bring back shapeless fashion? Seriously, if Kylie Minogue looks fat in the dress then I'm going to be harpooned if I wear it. Pantsuits?!? Are you shitting me? They make size 000 models look overweight, and/or pregnant. Why does all this season's fashion look like maternity wear? Or at least make me look like I'm wearing maternity wear? Who designed this year, pregnant women?
I did manage to find two tops, after much humming and meh-ing and after walking out of "House of Target" because the change room queues were too long (damn sales that I never know are on. It's not Boxing Day or the end of winter so why are you having a sale? Stop confusing me.) They're both blue, but different shades. I'll need to wait a few weeks before wearing them though I think. I will also have to buy another pair of pants, but I gave up on that today. And last week, and the week before.
The other problem for me with work-wear is finding appropriate summer shoes. Because shoes that are totally enclosed just aren't in this year, and certainly not in summer. I would just wear my blunnies, but they probably don't go that well with the nice clothes and I feel unprofessional wearing jeans (which I didn't when I was working at a university, but this is a hospital so I tend to dress up more. *sigh*) Strappy sandals are everywhere, as are thongs (again - whose stupid idea was thongs with heels? I mean... that's just insanely wrong. Like ugg boots with shorts in summer in LA, Geri.) - but I can't wear them in the lab. Enclosed shoes that go with three quarter length pants are kind of hard to find, at least where I'm looking. I may have to enlist help.
