So I've finally (mid-30s) found out what my super-power is.

I have the power to get attached to products and make them disappear. By disappear, I mean they stop making them. Completely.

So far I've had 3 shampoos, 1 type of chocolate, and now - and this is the one that really, really is making me sad - a brand of sneakers all stop production because I developed brand loyalty to them.

The sneakers is depressing me because I finally, after much searching, found a make that don't make my toes hurt while I'm playing. And so I've been dedicatedly buying them for about the last ten years. I kind of knew there was going to be a problem when I could only get them at Sportsmart, but I still held out hope - after all, there was at least one fairly major shop still stocking them! But no longer.

6 weeks ago I decided that I really did need to replace my old sneakers. So I shuffled down to Sportsmart, found my shoe, found the right size and bought a pair.

"You should get two" said Dean.

He was right. I should have. I had to take them back after two weeks because they were already starting to fall apart - I'd obviously gotten a dodgy pair. But that should be OK, after all, they had lots in my size there.

No more. All gone. They rang around the other shops. All gone.

They rang the manufacturer.

"Oh we've stopped making those ones, they were the last batch."

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

*sigh* So now I'm going to have to search for another shoe that's similar. And probably spend a couple of hundred dollars in the process (the other advantage of this shoe was that they were reasonably priced) while I figure out which ones work for me. Because it's not like I can tell immediately, it's usually several weeks down the road when the shop will no longer allow me to return them that they start killing my toes. I suppose I could just keep playing in the ones I've got - but realistically I probably should have replaced them about 3 months ago, they've bugger all grip and holes in the sides.

This is the third brand this year that I've managed to kill. My shampoo - which was huge originally, had a massive marketing campaign, a cute jingle, you name it - has vanished to the point that I can't even find it at Priceline. I did find some remnants at NQR, but now even they've disappeared. And this is the second shampoo I've done this to in three years.

And the chocolate - I fail to understand this one. I cannot possibly be the only person who likes this chocolate. Really and truly I can't. So why has it suddenly vanished?

It's a super-power. Now if I could just get it to work for me, I'd be in business.

Ahhh, [livejournal.com profile] rwrylsin and I seem to have that power too, her favourite shampoo is getting harder and harder to find at the moment, and we've "lost" all sorts of brands over the years ...

*giggling* What a great post! I have the same issues, except I always blame the shonky Indian mafia that run all our Coles supermarkets for getting me hooked on products and then never restocking!
