And seriously (going sideways from the US elections here) seven hour queues in Virginia?!?

Holy crap, I thought 90 minutes at Moreland sucked. And that was with a cake stall to provide distraction and everything!

Voting in the federal election while living in London the polling booth (at the consulate, it gets the biggest number of voters of any Aus fed election polling booth in the world) was open until around 8pm at night for two weeks before the election. Of course most people left it until the last day and most people couldn't go until after work. Being late in the year it was pitch black from around 5pm onwards and cold too. We all lined up on the street forever, with Liberal party volunteers handing out Anzac biscuits. Few homesick Aussies were too principled to refuse a bikkie.

Heh, typical. Still, 7 hours. Meh. With or without Anzac biscuits!

(Actually the second largest polling station outside Australia this last election was Hong Kong. Who knew?)

Could be tricky depending on where the polling booth is! I'm sure there's a lot of places it'd be downright difficult/illegal to run either a cake stall or a sausage sizzle.... but think of the fund raising potential!
