Met up with
ang_grrr,
dalmeny,
essjayeff and
tra4ce for brunch yesterday. Very relaxing.
ang_grrr and
dalmeny are out here for WorldCon, the other two live in the same city but we don't manage to catch up much!
dmw was also supposed to come along but apparently ended up doing a mass transfer of data from one format (slides) to another (electronic slides). The New Convention Centre apparently has decided that no one uses 20th century technology like slides any more. As it turns out they're wrong about that.
I hadn't quite realised that
ang_grrr had literally come out to Australia for the weekend - she's nuts. :-) The WorldCon seemed to be chugging along nicely - I was originally intending to go for at least a day, but due to a combination of essay, extreme tiredness and - as it now turns out - coming down with something (that at least partially explains the tiredness) I didn't quite make it. Next time.
(I'm still tired and should probably be studying. Mostly I'm wondering whether to have a nap or not.)
I did however manage to see the last couple of episodes of Babylon 5, only 12 years after they first aired and nearly 13 years after Multiverse 3. Now I'm wondering who's written a thesis along the lines of "From Babylon to Galactica" looking at the development of media SF from the late 90s to late 2000s. I'm sure someone has, it does seem like an obvious topic. If only to look at CGI improvements and their effect on storyline.

Date: 2010-09-08 07:12 am (UTC)I might be back in a couple of years. We'll see if my planned China adventure in 2012 comes off, and if I can combine it...
