Dec. 8th, 2003 04:00 pmOh and according to Robert Llewellyn's webpage, "Shooting is due to start in August, with rehearsals before that. As for other casting, no details yet, but it's going to be a hum dinger, guaranteed."
Presumably that's next August then, not the one just been?
Oh but then it says a bit further up:
As soon as there is any concrete news on this major, massive, hunormous project, it will be here in big plain letters.
Same old, same old...

Date: 2003-12-07 10:08 pm (UTC)I mean, there were people out there who liked series 8 and found it funny.
Just not as many as there were for series 1-7.
You'd think they'd notice the merchandising drop off though. I wouldn't necessarily expect them to notice the death of atvrd, or the demise of the Australian branch of the fan club or even the drop off in numbers of the fan club in the UK. But I would have expected they'd notice the monetary drop off.
I dunno. Part of me hopes that the movie will be fantastic. Part of me fears that it'll be series 8 redux. Most of me accepts that the likelihood of it being made diminishes with every passing year. Part of me still wants to be an extra in it (but then again, I'd have volunteered to be an extra in "Plan 9", or "Knights" or even "Soultaker". Not "The Incredible Melting Man" or "Red Zone Cuba" or "Blues Brothers 2000" though. Those were just too bad.) A lot of me wishes they'd just end the suspense now, accept the inevitable and shoot it in the head. (A lot of me hopes if they do that that Craig Charles is next up against the wall. Not sure why...)
[1]when gathered together at conventions it looks large anyway. Hell, I can find you a "large" group of fans for just about any sci-fi series in Melbourne, particularly if I advertise well enough.

Date: 2003-12-08 02:08 am (UTC)Never gonna happen. Do GNP even DO anything else? Googling for them throws up lots of RD links but nothing else - no website of their own or anything.

Date: 2003-12-08 04:18 am (UTC)The last I heard officially on the movie was an interview with Danny where he said the latest he had heard was May 2004, but he wasn't holding his breath - probably not an official comment that enamoured him to GNP, but there you go. I suspect Robert's "August" prediction is just a web page he hasn't bothered to update since early last year. I predict that in June they will push the date back again to September or something. The RD website tells the world that the movie hasn't started crewing up, yet. Is that normal 5-6 months before shooting is supposed to happen? I have no idea.
I wonder what happened to that fan that won the chance to be an extra in a video related competition all those years ago. You can tell how long ago - it was when RD was being released on video! I think he was about 15 at the time. Is he still keen? Has he been paid off with alternative prizes? Or do they just keep promising him "soon, soon, any time now..."?

Date: 2003-12-08 02:32 pm (UTC)Yeah I'd noticed the wider range at the ABC shop, but I guess what I was thinking of was that I haven't seen anyone wearing RD t-shirts in about 3 years (if you discount me and Dean on wash days). I should talk to the ABC people and ask how much of the stuff actually moves - and whether it's being bought by fans or (in my case) family members who vaguely remembered that she liked that series and so get stuff from it.

Hee. I'm sure they'll have another competition for the DVD... and then they can have "Elderly Man at Table" played by competition winner one and "Elderly Man in Doorway" played by competition winner 2. Mind you, they'll have to use computer generations of all the main cast by then. Still, can't hurt the acting I suppose. ;-)
May 2004 fits in with the Fox Studios thing, from what Derek was saying. But if they haven't gotten the crew yet... hm. Who knows.

Date: 2003-12-09 07:49 pm (UTC)(Mind you, the version I borrowed off a friend before it was shown here had all the US commercials still in it. Which kind of made up for some of the bleah aspects of it all. At least we could all sit and laugh at the foreign ads.)
