Jan. 4th, 2004 07:30 pmAfter a very warm day yesterday, and a very nice BBQ that went with it, it's cooler and raining today.
The BBQ was fun, despite my panicking about it. Very small, as I'd guessed from the RSVPs or occasional lack thereof, but a good group and a lot of interesting discussion.
(Next year I promise to have seen more films,
epideme. Or at the very least have managed to have seen all of LOTR. ;-) I've now been totally put off The Matrix parts 2 and 3 though. Oh, and I actually saw two films at the cinema last year - the other one was The Inside Story, highly recommended.)
In the end we had enough lawn furniture and the BBQ worked and people showed and we had enough bread and the tarp didn't blow off like last year. ;-)
Now we're working our way through the remaining salads, which, as per usual, I massively overcatered with. Anyone wanting some tabouli/pasta/rice/green or potato salad?
So, in the interests of further interesting discussion at the next barbie, today we went to see Mystic River. Fantastic film, although the last 10 mins felt added on to me, and surplus to requirements. Definitely one of Sean Penn's most brilliant roles though. And Kevin Bacon's. And Tim Robbin's.
The ending was so inevitable, and yet you still hoped that something somehow would avert it. Worth seeing.
