Star Wars (no spoilers)

Saw it last night with around 300 other fans.

I liked it. Some didn't but I did.

Great action. What barrington referred to was excellent.

Not as good as Empire (my fave) but way, way better than Phantom Menace.

And definitely try and see it with fans. Trek and Star Wars are both much better if everyone in the room is laughing at the in jokes, even if the movie (especially Insurrection) is crap.

Is it just me or has there been a lot less hype around about this than there was about Phantom Menace?

It's not just you. I think that after the massive hype around the Phantom Menace, and the resultant sorry spectacle of the film not living up to the hype, this time around they've decided to lay off on the hype and let the film speak for itself.

Judging by the LiveJournal entries of people who've seen the film, it's a ploy that seems to have worked.

I agree with ajr, but I think a lot of the hype wasn't studio generated, it was fan generated and after the disappointment of Ep1 people weren't willing to get as excited. We really found that ticket sales for the 12.01am screening (yes, I am that sad) were very slow compared to last time and the Star Wars guest we had at the last con didn't attract as many people as he would have prior to ep 1. I was really starting to wonder if Lucas realised how much of his own franchise (or should that be fanchise?) he'd killed off.

I think there'll be a lot more hype about Ep3 now though... :-
