This week has been a fairly arty one for me. On the weekend Dean and I went with friends to see "The Impressionists" exhibition at the NGV. Very impressive collection, we're going to try and see it again before it goes in September. We might have to try and go mid-week though, as even at opening time (10am) on Sunday the queue was out the door and heading down St Kilda Rd! Dean also wants to re-read his art history about the impressionists before seeing it again - and I want to read it for the first time, having dropped art at the end of year 7. Sal and I both want to get the audio as well next time - we were debating it this time when Dean charged off into the exhibition (possibly as a result of having queued for 30 minutes and built up quite a lot of energy).

Last night a group of us from work headed off to see the Bell Shakespeare Company's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" which was playing at the Alexander Theatre. It was great, although there was a couple of seconds of panic for the intitial couple of lines, when my brain went "this isn't in English! You haven't read/watched Shakespeare in about 3 years! What are you doing?" and then everything clicked back into place. I have to say it's probably the most accessible of Shakespeare's plays, particularly as the 'play within a play' is just total physical comedy. Well, it's played as such most times I've seen it! :-) We're trying to get together a group from the lab to go and see the production in the Botanical Gardens in summer when it starts again.

Another play that's showing at the moment that I wouldn't mind seeing is Minefields and Miniskirts, which is based on Australian women's stories about the Vietnam War. Then there's Lenny Henry, who Dean's hanging out to see, and of course [livejournal.com profile] barrington's Fringe Festival Show - which, just incidentally here Ben, we may be up for a group booking for. Tell you at the slouch. :-) ([livejournal.com profile] shnetti are you coming to the slouch? My place, I can pick you up if needs be? Got a heater and everything!)

And there's a production of Macbeth that's sounding interesting too... :-)

Group booking, eh?

Hope the group is of 20 people or less...the venue only seats 20!

But seriously, that would be awesome. All I need to do is make sure it's good so that you enjoy yourself when you come along...

Oh, and I'll be at the slouch. I'll bring that Red Dwarf RPG book, too.
