So I ended up crossing the picket lines and coming in. The problem is basically that 2 days notice for a strike is a little too few for me - I'd already booked equipment, I'm helping a student from the Burnet through a new procedure that we've been setting up for since Monday and had organised since last week, I've got various experiments running, a third year student and I'm screening 400+ plants again because reducing them means the bloody Ab can't recognise them. Stupid di-sulphide bonds.

I think I'll just say that I was on strike and lose the day's pay or something in solidarity.

Bah humbug.

A one day strike by essentially an Admin Staff union seems a bit pointless to me. Surely every admin staff that went on strike will just have twice as much to do the next day... for 1 less day's pay!

It's hardly going to bring the university to it's knees!

It's not just admin. Most of the academic teaching staff went out, most classes were cancelled and as a result the majority of students stayed home. If it'd been a different day I probably could have gone out or taken annual leave or something: today just sucked. BioSci had 1/8 academics who didn't go out for example.
