OK, we've got a new e-mac, which is very sexy etc.

Does anyone know how to stop it making copies of every document opened and saving them on the desktop?

Given that this computer is shared between 15 people, our desktop is getting quite full.

That is bizarre. Um. Don't save stuff mindlessly? Use actual user accounts? (eg System Preferences/Users/ enable "fast user switching") Delete stuff? Put it in a folder?

(My desktop is always full; I have extra folders for "pdfs I downloaded and I don't know why", and so on.)

This is more you open a .pdf file (e.g. journal article), it opens in Preview, you print it, you shut it.

Later you realise there's a saved copy on the desktop.

Ditto the word document detailing the new seminar roster, which everyone and their dog has opened, ditto basically everything. You don't actually need to hit save on anything, it seems to be doing it automatically.
