Some time ago [livejournal.com profile] ang_grrr wrote about the new series of Miss Marple. I wish I could find it again, but I can't so I'm forced to update instead.

Firstly, The Body in the Library. Why did they kill the girl guide? I must have missed something, because it seemed completely counter-productive to me. Joanna Lumley just came across as Patsy only in the 1950s and more sober. The lesbian thing.. well, it made as much sense as anything else, I certainly didn't see it as the outrage that several people in the letters page of the Green Guide did.

The second one (Murder at the Vicarage?) I enjoyed more, although part of that was because it was set up slightly better. The murder still left me going "well that was stupid" though. I liked the backstory of Miss Marple, although she seemed too young for the age of the character in the backstory pieces (she'd be 30s in WW1, yeah? I think anyway.)

Mostly enjoying it though so far.

And I'm loving Mythbusters. Watched the last three weeks worth (taped due to netball) all last night. Alcatraz, Pigs in Cars, Implanting via the blood bank, lots of explosions. Love it. :-)

While I don't seem capable of watching an episode of Miss Marple right through I do find myself turning over for little snatches. Mostly because the series is full of faces I'm sure I recognise from other shows. Certainly that youngish and rather cocky detective is surely played by the same fellow as was the moderately hopeless boyfriend in Coupling for example? I really must check the cast for familiar names at some point.

I watched the first couple of episodes of Mythbusters and found it terribly slow going, so dropped it. However I caught most of the last two episodes shown and found it far more watchable. The pacing and the voiced over commentary is far better now so the episodes aren't dragging. I don't always agree with their conclusions though. The pigs in the car for example, I didn't think they busted that myth at all. Indeed, to my way of thinking their experiment gave the original story greater credibility. The key point was they used the expertise and materials of a professional and still failed to entirely erradicate the smell. Given that I can easily believe that somebody without access to the services of the sort of professional they used would never get their car smelling sweet again, even though it probable wouldn't of stunk anywhere near as bad as the pig car. I think the experiment was a great success, just that it successfully points to a different conclusion.

Indeed, it would be disconcerting for me to encounter Jack Davenport in Ultraviolent if my experience of himwas entirely from Coupling since Ultraviolent was terribly serious. Post Miss marple though it would not seem so bizzare.

As for Jeff, well quite some time ago i was half watching a drama on the ABC set in the British army during WWII and I was sure I had seem the actor playing the very reluctant to be in the army officer in something else. It was Jeff of course and once I'd made the connection i couldn't help but wait for him to say 'nipples' at some inappropriate moment.
