Ambulances next door last night.

The elderly lady who lives next to us had had a bad fall, resulting in a compound greenstick fracture in her leg.

The neighbours on the other side are the contact for her emergency alarm, which she was fortunately wearing, so help was able to come quickly. Even so the ambos had to give her morphine in order to move her. It's apparently not the first fall (I talked to the neighbours). The neighbours don't really think she'll be able to come back from this one. She's 96. It'd take 6 weeks for a healthy adult to get back on their feet. She's living for the cats (all 5 of them that happily roam my backyard stalking the birds) who are essentially her children. She's living alone. She's blind and deaf. Half the neighbourhood checks that her bins are out and back in and asks the district nurse if she's going OK.

The neighbours are feeding the cats for now. They'll talk with her relations who live nearby and who accompanied her to the hospital and try and work out what will happen - both with her and with the cats.

God save me from being old and alone

I got a message that Dean took down for me on Saturday when I was at work.

It said: "Your netball final is at 7.30pm Sunday".

That is seriously weird. I haven't played netball in ages (ta Mo-fos) but I have played indoor soccer on Sundays for a while. However, the likelihood of our team reaching the finals is non-existent.

What worries me more though is that Dean just went "Oh, OK" and wrote it down. I live with him. He sees me for about 20 mins per day and on weekends. One would surely think that he would have noticed that I'm not playing netball? And maybe asked whoever it was that phoned if they were sure they had the right number? My name being so uncommon and all.

And he thinks I'm vague.

This whole living together/never seeing each other attempt at relationship thing is getting me down. It was summed up the other day when I woke up to find an envelope of money on the pillow. Well, OK, it was the rent and he left it there partly so I'd find it and partly as a joke, but even so... :-
