Played netball last night - mostly GD against a woman who was considerably taller, fitter and more agile than me. D'oh. Gave up defending in the last quarter and went and played GS - much more fun and I got to steamroll their GK who was attempting to zone me (it's illegal now, dammit, if I'm running you have to get out of the way! It made no difference, the umpires weren't picking it up as contact either against me or against her so I just hip and shouldered her out of the way after a bit... I think I've been playing with mixed teams too much.)

Some interesting decisions - all against us, all in the same corner of the court. I'm thinking the angle the umpire was on was bad. She said afterwards that she wondered, particularly after one decision where all three of the players on our team just looked at her. Then some woman who'd been spectating claimed that the decision was right, and I'd definitely touched the ball last. I looked surprised and said "Um, I threw the ball. The player you're thinking of has bright red hair." Personally I think she needed glasses more than the umpire. ;-)

I also didn't particularly appreciate being called for contact when I had the ball and the GA came from behind me and hit it out of my hands, but them's the breaks I guess. And besides I quite like these umpires (one of whom almost choked on a fly last week - we had to stop the game for a couple of minutes) and they don't hate me or the team yet, so that's good. Before anyone wonders, I usually get on fine with umpires, I don't debate decisions (although I will ask off the court about ones I was wondering about) but having said that there is one umpire who I am convinced hates me. I don't know what I've done to her. Possibly played against her in a previous existence or in a reality where I was a really good player or something. I don't think I've done anything to her in this competition at least!

We lost by 5, which I think is our closest result for this season. We're starting to get used to playing together now though, so with any luck we'll stop doing things like assuming everyone's a foot taller and leaps like a gazelle and actually throw to people's chests. Or to where they're running. Or failing that, at the very least throw to our own team. ;-)

*grin* Although I did have to laugh when Lou managed - twice in a row, mind you! - to yell "come forward, come forward" to me, then, as I did, threw it a foot over my head. Hm. :-) Lou, seriously, I'm shorter than you think. ;-)

Hell, I'm shorter than I think.

Soccer was fun - we had our first win for ages and I scored a goal! Yay! I'm not 100% sure how, I thought it was saved, then their goalie dropped it or something. We played pretty well, actually passing to each other and generally manning up well in defence. And the player that I've been ready to kill the last couple of times we've played that team wasn't on PMT and was actually quite nice. Who knew! :-)

Tell you what, I'm bloody stiff now though. What not playing for three weeks over Christmas'll do to you.
