OK, if you could (and had a band and all that) which ten songs would you cover?

Mine are - and I admit to a strong liking for bass at the moment - in no particular order:

1. "Poison" - Alice Cooper. OK, OK, it's the dress up factor. See the film clip if you don't believe me. I like dressups.

2. "99 luchtballons." - Nina? In German. The English version is OK, but the German scans better and I like it. I can't speak it or sing it, but this is fantasy.

3. "Ik wil je" - De Kreuners. The bass factor. Lots of bass riff. Mmm.

4. "Zo jong" - De Kreuners (again). Dress up factors mostly. ;-) Hard to explain in English. Well, OK, easy to explain in English but I'm not going to. *grin* "Zij ist jong..(zo jong) en compulsif voor mij."

5. "You don't have to say you love me" - Dusty Springfield. But only if I have a voice as good as hers. Love her voice. Want it. Argh.

6. "I was made for loving you" - KISS. OK, this is probably my daggiest choice (well so far). I blame the bass. And the makeup. Let's face it, it's got almost everything I want. :-)

7. "Allentown" - Billy Joel, but a hard rock version. With bass. And crashes. I can hear it, but I can't make Dean hear it yet. Hm.

8. "La Isla Bonita" - Madonna but again, a hard rock version. With sort of salsa. This one I've sung at Dean, so he can hear it now.

9. "The winner takes it all" - ABBA. OK, a close runner up for my daggiest choice. But it's so sad. And it therefore involves dressups.

and finally

10. "She's an angel" - They Might Be Giants. The tuba. Sort of bassy. And besides, it's got the lyric: These things happen to other people/They don't happen at all, in fact

which I often relate to. Particularly if you put the word wierd in front of people, which I seem to do while singing along.

So there's the score from Radio HNPCC. I'll probably update this list as my liking for bass continues (argh, missed "totally addicted to bass"! How could I forget that?) and I find more songs that I didn't have time to type. ;-)

Tough call.

Really tough. But here are some I thought of straight away:

1. "The King of Spain" - Moxy Früvous. If you've heard this song, and you know me, or if you're Tra4ce, then you'll know why.

2. "Forever Autumn" - Jeff Wayne. From the musical War of the Worlds, one of the most poignant songs about grief.

3. "Tribute" - Tenacious D. Because it's rock, and I like hyperbole... "This is the greatest and best song in the world...tribute."

4. "You Really Got A Hold On Me" - The Miracles. Though the Beatles version is my true inspiration.

5. "I Must Be In Love" - The Rutles. So Beatles in feel, and so much fun.

6. "One More Minute" - "Weird Al" Yankovic. Listen to it and be converted to a love of musical comedy.

7. "(Putting Up With) The Joneses" - Spirit of the West. An excellent folksy political song.

8. "She's On Time" - Barenaked Ladies. Oh, this one's fun. Fun fun fun. (No sun sun sun.)

9. "Almost Like Bein' In Love" - Nat King Cole. A joyous celebration of infatuation and new love.

10. "I Think I Love You" - The Partridge Family. Again, the original isn't the inspiration - more the Voice of the Beehive version.

11. "O! Mr. Hairdresser" - Vic Reeves and the Images of Cream. The B-side to Vic's cover of "Dizzy," and it's a surreal trip.

12. "Sonne" - Rammstein. Because singing in German is kewl.

[Spends some time chortling over the memories of vic n bob's musical mayhem.]
OK, so if I can do any cover I want and have a band, does that mean I can pretend that I can sing too?
Coz this could now end up taking some time as I have to narrow down a vast quantity of BNL and Kate Bush...and Gabriel...and Annie Lennox and basically I'm too ruddy indecisive. Like when I try to do movie top 10's I always end up having loadsa joint places and about 20 in the list.
This wasn't what you asked! I shall go away now...
hmmmmm

Just the ten.

Okay, I've got ten songs.

I think I'd start with Jellyfish and "The King is Half Undressed." because it's quite easy to sing and the crowd would be jumping (it's nice and full of jangly guitars). Sticking with the 90's sound I'd probably follow with "Welcome to the Cheap Seats" but I'd want to do the Kirsty Mac Harmony and get someone else to do the other bits.

Then I'd slow it down a little, probably ingulging in a little bit of Beautiful South and "Rotterdam" and follow it with a nice bluesy number such as "Summertime."

Half way through I'd do "Feelin' Groovy" after Simon and Garfunkel. Then I'd Rock it for a couple of numbers, probably indulging myself with a bit of the Bangles and "Walking Like an Egyptian" and then "Call Me" by Blondie.

Suddenly I'd throw in a bit of country, although I couldn't decide until the day fi I should do "Little old Wine Drinker Me" or "Rosegarden"
Second to last would by Kirsty again with "Don't come the Cowboy with me, Sonny Jim." Following this would be Billy Bragg and "Waiting for the Great Leap Forward."

More than one list?? Well...I must go and play catch up with my journal reading, but first...this has ended up being favourite songs really, and I guess its also very girlie too, seeing as its all mostly for the lyrics and emotional response: [not in order]

Kate bush: Love and anger
Peter gabriel : Secret world
Annie Lennox : Little bird
Monkeys : Daydream believer
Stones : Satisfaction
Simon & Garfunkel : Gotta keep the customer satisfied
Sarah McLachlan : Possession
BNL : Brian Wilson
Alanis Morrisette : Head over feet

[apologies for spellings and incorrectly remembered titles obviously ;-]
