Quick notes:

*We've seen a pyramid. The step one up close, the Giza ones from a couple of angles but not up close yet. The step one was designed by Imhotep, which is not pronounced at all like in The Mummy. The touts really are annoying, but the 'commentary' of "here are the fishen. The fishen in the nile. The feluccan in the Nile for the King. King Titty..." had me trying very hard not to giggle. Dean was mostly annoyed.

*We've also been to Alexandria and back. Now I've seen the Mediterraneum from both Africa and Europe. Too cold to swim though (bloody freezing with the wind off the sea, seriously)! Catacombs, trams, Ampitheatres, Bibliotheque, Chadstone. No, seriously, Chadstone. It may have been called San Stefano, but actually it was Chadstone. Dean also got sick - from KFC (at Chadstone). Told you junk food will make you sick! Kind of amusing given how much stuff we've bought off street vendors.

*We're getting used to the traffic, and more importantly, to crossing it. Only moment of terror so far was on the Corniche in Alex, which is 8 lanes (theoretically - more like 12 at any given time) of fast moving traffic. Unfortunately the design of the Bibliotheque did not include an overpass there. There's one on the other side, which is only two lane of traffic doing 40kph max - no, I don't know why either. The Death Star Planetarium is way cool though.

*Alex's trams rock. I like trams. And these ones charged us the same as everyone else and then left us alone to people watch out the window. Small pleasures.

*The catacombs have the most muscular representation of the Jackal I've ever seen. They could have been drawn by Marvel (except then they would also have exterior underpants.)

Photos to come. Off on tour tomorrow, back in a fortnight.

I think we had the same tout ! At the step pyramid, we did the rounds of the tombs there - King Titi and ministers Mereruka and Ka-Gymni(sp?), and we had a guy pointing out just how much stuff they were all getting to take into the afterlife - "thousand fish, thousand barley, thousand wheat" ... etc.

And the traffic really is "interesting" ... ummm ... in a fairly crazy sort of way ...

How do you pronounce Imhotep?

Alexandria! Sounds marvellous.
