My bench looks like it belongs to the Beverley Hillbillies. It has the lab equivilent of a few rusting utes and/or tractors in the backyard, a couple of mangy dogs and a chook roaming free and a half-filled hay barn which is falling down on one side. You can tell I haven't been doing a lot of bench work recently, otherwise there'd be a space cleared in the middle where I could do it. As it is, I've just been dumping things that need doing on it, and now it's almost full.

But, on the other hand, my shoots are starting to root. *snerk*

I should probably be worried that I start giggling every time I talk about rooting shoots, or rooting media, or rooting in general - but then again the Postdoc who sits opposite me started giggling when I was talking about it as well, so maybe it's not that strange.

Childish, yeah, but not strange. ;-)

it's strange in texas. i have trouble with the cheerleaders rooting for the football team, for example.

in general, your post today is a fount of Australian English that does my soul good. thanks.

i'm a native of texas, and i've always felt silly saying "root" in any contexts other than "that part of a plant that's below the ground and takes in nutrients" and the odd linguistic use without ever being sure why...

[yes, i realize i don't use "native texan" grammar. i also don't have an accent, a fact which is puzzling considering that everyone else in my family does, except for my paternal grandmother, who has a "chameleon voice" around foreigners]
