Dean and I have been giggling for weeks over the new show on commercial TV, The Mentalist. Seriously, that's a bad name for a show. Not that we've watched it, mind you, we've just laughed at the ads. Thank you Simon Baker, you've made our day.
Two weeks on and I'm still giggling over the choice of song to introduce the Roberta Williams character on Underbelly. Even the band name is strangely appropriate. The only other song I'd heard from this band was a very long time ago on Triple J, and buggered if I can now remember what it's called. Even after reading their lyrics list.
Channel 9 has finally decided to start showing Survivor: Fans vs Favorites (Micronesia) - just as the US starts the series after that. Not that they've bothered advertising the fact to anyone of course. No, why would we want to watch it - there's a new one to download.
TAR13's also started in the US. Yay. I think. Ask me after I've watched it.
ABC managed to irritate me by moving the final episode of Wire in the Blood from Friday night to late Saturday night without mentioning it. So we missed it. I'm not sure I'm that worried, it was a bit too far on the titillation side without the interesting psychology this series. Meh.
On the other hand, it's being replaced by new Taggart. Which means we can play the "guess what 'plot twist' is next?" drinking game. Coupled with the "where have we seen that actor before?" game, always a fun one with Scottish productions.
The Doctor Who finale also irritated me. God, what a fanwank episode. Especially in Australia where Torchwood has barely made it on screen and the Sarah-Jane adventures hasn't. If you hadn't watched both of those and paid attention to all three Russell seasons you were left going "who's that? what? when did that happen?" - which annoyed me. And the ending was meh, although some of the speculation as to what happens next was interesting. But man am I over the whole Rose Wuvs Doctor 4 EVA!!!1! bullshit. Oh shag already and get over it ffs.
(Not to mention - you know, if I'd had the freedom of the universe and were practically immortal I'd be pretty pissed to be stuck in Wales. I nearly wrote "one-dimensional Wales" but that's not quite what I meant. I give it 5 years before he hits the turps, big time. Especially as the "love of his life" sees him as a distinctly second-best.)
(Not to mention #2 - how do you get some incredible number of nukes buried around the earth in strategic locations without anyone noticing? Is there something the Hadron Collider people should be telling us?)
