rain and hail and wind
Aug. 25th, 2009 05:50 pmI am very, very grateful that I took the advice given by both Connex, the SES and the University and left work early. I made it home literally minutes before the full force of the storm hit. I thought it was bad enough with the high winds, rain and hail I pushed through. It got a lot worse.
It was such a beautiful day the rest of the day! Sunny this morning, sunny at lunch, nothing on the BOM radar when I checked at 2.30... then I checked at 4pm, sculled the cup of tea I'd just made and announced that I was leaving before the large blue, yellow and red bands hit. Not least because my train line has a fair number of large trees along it, and really, you only need one branch in the wrong place and we're all bitching about waiting for buses again.
The good news is that at least part of the band appears to be over the Yan Yean catchment. Not sure about the Thompson, it hasn't hit there yet. Hopefully there'll be a huge dump there too.
And looking to the west I can see the far edge of the band, only 20 minutes after it hit. Amazing. And only one small power black out (so far).
So glad I ran out the door though!
