Jun. 28th, 2010 05:47 pmYou know just when you think you've become blase about everything you read something like this which shocks the bejesus out of you.
Seriously, advocating near-drowning of children? Whipping of infants? Sitting on your child and beating them until they "submit"?
Those are some seriously screwed up ideas.
And I wonder why it's only the means of conception that's regarded as being so important in my state as to warrant a police check and child protection order check. Surely a mandatory check of parenting books in the house should be instituted for all parents taking children home as well.
Another argument against that first book is here.
The author goes into Stockholm Syndrome for a bit, not least because one of the children of the author's from the first book sent in an e-mail response.
It took me a while to realise what this story was reminding me of. It was People Might Hear You, by Robin Klein, which I read in the mid-1980s. At the time it seemed unlikely that such a cult could exist in the middle of modern Sydney. Now, having read the blog post... I'm less certain of that.
There are some seriously screwed up individuals out there.
