Paper Apologises for Portraying Muslims As Human.

Sadly, it's not an Onion story.

From the linked article, which is decrying the apology:

The Portland Press Herald has apologized to its readers for publishing images of Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadan, which this year coincided with the 9/11 anniversary. Among the outrageous statements that the accompanying article made: that Portland-era Muslims met to mark the end of the month-long holy fast, that they made a traditional call for charity, and that children played soccer.

Yeah, I could see how that's terribly offensive. I mean, soccer. If they were real Americans they'd be playing that weird-arse version of football they have. I mean, obviously.

It's really fucking stupid that a newspaper editor who at first had no problem with publishing photos of a local cultural event would then write an apology. They must have had a huge advertiser backlash, which is either equally or more stupid.

Although, given the editor originally published the photos and the quote from the 'apology' is so lame, it makes me think the publisher is the one who forced them to apologise and the editor has done it as insipidly as possible.
