hnpccDay 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale
Battlestar Galactica, seasons 1, 2 and 3.
Season one left us with Starbuck, Helo and Athena on Caprica; Adama shot by Boomer and Laura Roslin behind bars. How could you not go back to find out what happened?
Season two ended with almost everyone in makeshift camps on a new planet, trying to make a new start... when the Cylons turned up, Baltar surrended to them (pretty much under duress - surrender or be nuked really doesn't leave many options) and Galactica and Pegasus jumped away with skeleton crews on board, leaving everyone going "where the hell do they go from here??"
Season three was the second weakest finale (the weakest was still the final episode of season 4, which still irritates me) but even so - the Final Five were sort of revealed, and Starbuck returned from the dead having found Earth. Meanwhile Baltar managed not to be sentenced to death for treason (seriously here - which part of under duress was not apparent to people?? Scapegoating.)
True Blood has also had some doozies of finales, particularly seasons 1 and 2 (3 was kind of meh compared to the first two.) Season 1 ended with a body being found in a car - but no clue as to whose body it was; season 2 ended with Bill being kidnapped after having proposed to Sookie ("Suckie is mahn!"). Season 3 was kind of a letdown after those two, with Sookie heading off into a special place - no bodies, no kidnapping, nothing but fairy lights!
Star Trek TNG had one of the best ever cliffhangers with "The Best of Both Worlds, part I" where Picard became a Borg. That really left everyone going "OK, how do you get out of that??" The answer? Not that well, actually.
Blake's 7 of course has the best cliffhanger/season/series finale - bastards. On the other hand it could have been resolved in a worse way than the Battlestar finale, so I should probably be grateful that they left us hanging.
