On the fourteenth day of Christmas I came home from work and opened the little window to find:



"What child is this who laid to rest
in packing foam is sleeping?
Whom donkeys greet with smiling sheep
While Joseph looks to be freaking?
This, this is Christ the King
With Santa mask watching over Him.
Haste, haste to bring Him lollies,
The Babe, the Son of Mary."

Mary at least looks joyfully at her new baby - Joseph has that new-father "OMG it's too late to change my mind but I'm really happy... and terrified" look going, while the cross-eyed donkey and smiling sheep are just beautiful. I'm not sure if the owners of the shop are religious and therefore wanted a straight Nativity - but hey, a new baby in the world? Great time for a celebration! Bring on the confectionery! Break out the party goods!

Yeah, I'm now of the opinion that the painter had a lot of white to use up. It does appear in the most likely places. I mean a stable is under cover, right? Although if we're in the magical Monkey snow/cloud theme then maybe it all makes sense. Kind of. OK, it doesn't.

I never would have noticed the ghostly Santa mask!

You'd be amazed at how much you notice when you're staring at something for a very long time. If I could have thought of something to work the ghostly Santa/reindeer body off to the right in too I would have.
