Advent calendar
Dec. 18th, 2010 05:39 pmOn the eighteenth day of Christmas it rained, was hot, rained, was hot, rained, was hot - so I gave up trying to work out what to do with the washing and opened the little window to see:

"Come see Blitzen, with a nail gun,
Hammer and screwdriver, ready for some fun.
You need your tiles re-laid, well he's the one,
He'll fix your guttering, so it will still run,
second to none, very well done,
Call "Backyard Blitzen", he gets the job done,
And he'll come."
OK, to partially explain the individual reindeer thing I mentioned earlier? I looked at this window - which is of course the local hardware - and immediately came up with the "Backyard Blitzen" line. Which then meant the other reindeer had to be individuals too.
Of course what I really wanted the song to be was:
"Builder Blitzen!
Can he fix it?
Builder Blizten
Yes he can!!"
But I couldn't actually pretend that was a Christmas song, so I went with the Little Drummer Boy, which at least had percussion.
I didn't manage to get a photo without the additional merchandise, but I ended up liking having Blitzen standing on a shell sand/water play pen thing. Not sure why, but it seemed appropriate for a reindeer working in hardware (the shirt's a bit of a giveaway!) to be surrounded by items he was obviously about to install. I'm also impressed by the work boots, which are undoubtedly steel-capped.
I'm still not sure how he'd hold the nails though. Hooves are tricky for small items. They also make it difficult to type in your PIN, let alone cover it.
