So we played in the soccer grand final last night, against RugRats.

We'd played Rugrats a few times - the very first time we played them we won, then we drew a couple of times, won at least one other time and finally lost to them in the most recent game.

For the final both teams had 9 players (5 on the court at any one time) although they had a larger number of supporters (none of our family/friends came to see us!) We tend to change individually as people get tired - Rugrats change all four players at once, which is kind of funny to watch.

The game was very close, with them going 1-0 up in the first half before we equalised.

In the second half we teetered: we went 2-1 up, they equalised, we went 3-2 up - with a fantastic goal by Fraser - and for a minute there it seemed like we might be able to hold that score.

But no, they equalised. And then scored again, dammit.

We finally lost 5-2 (a final, very spectacular goal by their player who should have won best on ground) in the dying minutes of the game.

And then we all got presented with trophies that look remarkably like eggcups.

Our aim for this season was, at the start, "to win more than we lose". I don't think any of us seriously expected to make the grand final, nor for it to be so close. And apart from one gratuitously stupid yellow card, it was a great game. Which quite seriously could have gone either way.

Next season we'll win it. New aim. :-)

(note to self: improve foot-eye co-ordination in order for this to happen...)
